Borras awarded restoration of Brackley Town Hall

Our General Contracts team are delighted to have recently been awarded the £2.6m restoration of the Grade II* Listed Brackley Town Hall, Northamptonshire. The prestigious scheme will build on our vast experience of working with listed buildings, which in recent years has included the restoration of Leytonstone Library, Langtons Gardens and Hitchin Town Hall.

The project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is on behalf of Brackley Town Council and will involve dramatic refurbishment and alteration works across the buildings three floors. The new design aims to improve overall usability whilst respecting and sympathetically repairing the existing building fabric.

On the ground floor a café with kitchen and toilets will be created in the centre of the room, designed in this way to minimise impact upon existing walls and windows. The main entrance and lobby will be refurbished, an existing staircase will be removed and replaced and a new lift installed. Space will also be created for town council offices.

The Civic Hall on the first floor will be carefully restored and a commercial kitchen adjacent to the new stairs created. These new facilities will equip the building to host a wider variety of events and community groups.

The existing attic shall be transformed into open plan holiday let accommodation available to hire by the general public, offering fantastic views of Brackley.

Additional works include external stone repairs, the removal of an existing mezzanine floor and works to the clock tower.

We will be working with Haverstock Architects and surveyors D.R. Nolans & Co to deliver the scheme. Works will commence in the new year and are scheduled to last 78 weeks.

Our Contracts Manager and Site Manager on the project will be hosting a ‘Meet the Builders’ session at 3pm on the 14th December in the Town Hall. Come along to find out more and ask us any questions.
