Borras help St Albans football team turn disaster into cup success
Two years ago, the 17th St Albans Cubs Football team was on the verge of disbanding. Soon to be manger-less and with falling player numbers, it seemed that the team would have to withdraw from the local cubs football league.
Fast forward to May 2017 at Margaret Wix Primary School, the team won the Salwey League Cup final 2-1. Cub teams have competed for the cup since 1923, making it one of the oldest youth football competitions in the country, and one the 17th Cub’s had never previously won.
Manager Stephen Carpenter took over the reins two years ago when the team were at their lowest. “Our kit looked like it came straight out of the 70s” remembers Stephen. “Other teams were playing with new kits and big brand sponsors so we decided to do the same to help boost morale. Word quickly spread and we were delighted when Borras Construction offered to provide us with a full kit, balls, flags and end of season medals”.
Once in new kits and looking the part results soon improved culminating in cup success and an impressive second place finish in the league!
“We are delighted to be able to support such a fantastic local team” said Rae Borras, founder and Chairman of Borras Construction. “Congratulations to the players on their achievements this season and long may the success continue!”
In response to the Coronavirus outbreak, we are keen to reassure our employees, clients, project stakeholders and supply-chain partners, that we are taking the necessary precautions in relation to a healthy working environment across our sites and operations.
