Borras Support Age Concern St Albans
Age Concern St Albans is a small local charity that provides support to the elderly residents of the City. It is run almost entirely by volunteers and depends on voluntary contributions to fund the work it does. At their centre in Hall Place Close they offer a friendly, welcoming place where elderly people can meet and socialise with others.
Borras became aware of Age Concern whilst searching for a community initiative to support during our St Albans kitchen and bathroom improvement project. After much discussion with the staff at the centre Carol Kirby (our Resident Liaison Officer on the St Albans Scheme) agreed that Borras would be delighted to donate a new freezer and microwave for use in their kitchen. Previous to this the centre had no freezer, an issue which meant staff were having to do food shopping for the locals in their personal time at weekends due to lack of frozen storage.
The St Albans Social Housing team Carol, Les Brown (Project Manager) and Josette Fitzpatrick (Resident Liaison Officer) recently visited the centre to have a chat with some of its regular users and find out how the new appliances were making a difference. Staff there were quick to express their appreciation to all of the team, Christine Law (Day Centre Organiser) said on the day “we are very, very grateful to Borras for the donation, they are going to help us massively on a day to day basis”.

My experience of working with Borras over the life of this contract has been highly successful. All elements of work have been carried out in a professional manner to a high standard and we have been able to forge a good working relationship and understanding of the final product.
