Borras transforming grade II listed garage and stables

Borras’ Special Works Division set up site at Avenue House in Finchley at the end of June 2016. Avenue House is an imposing grade II listed mid Victorian mansion with extensive gardens landscaped by Robert Marnock. Today the mansion provides comfortable facilities for conferences, business functions, exhibitions, weddings and family celebrations as well as lush gardens for the public to enjoy free of charge. In 2014 the entire estate became Stephens House & Gardens to better interpret the history of this amazing facility.

The project we are completing involves work to the 1880 grade II listed stable block and garage. The stable block is being extensively and sympathetically refurbished to create a new cafe, which will serve members of the public and visitors to the neighbouring park. Additionally, toilets and showers are being formed, two office spaces are being created on the first floor and the towers on either end of the building are being re-roofed.

The adjacent garage is being transformed into a community resource room which will be utilised for events and educational activities. The existing flooring and ceiling are being replaced, new mechanical and electrical installations are being installed and a folding glazed entrance will be created.

Borras are working in partnership with consultants Jon Sheaff Associates and Huntley Cartwright to deliver the scheme on behalf of the Avenue House Estate Trust, a charity who took over the management of the estate from the London Borough of Barnet in 2002.

The £320k scheme is scheduled for completion in mid November.
