Building excellence recognition for Merchant Taylors’ new Design Centre
Borras are delighted to have been shortlisted for a 2016 LABC Building Excellence Award. The Local Authority Building Control (LABC) awards celebrate vital elements in the creation of excellent buildings: outstanding craftsmanship, technical innovation, sustainability and high performance.
We have been shortlisted for ‘Best Educational Building’ in the Central region for the £4.7m Design Centre our General Contracts team constructed at Merchant Taylors’ School, Northwood. The two storey structure, which was delivered in partnership with Architecture PLB over 75 weeks features a half cross laminated timber frame and half traditional block and brick. Now complete the building boasts 5 state-of-the-art workshop areas, 3 teaching spaces, 2 art studios and a food technology room.
The nomination follows on from our success at the 2014 LABC awards where Borras walked away with the ‘Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development’ for our Westminster House scheme.
The awards will be announced in April with all regional winners going forward into the National LABC awards, due to be held in November.
