On Site – Woollensbrook Crematorium
Works are underway and progressing well on site in Hoddesdon where our General Contracts Division are constructing the new Woollensbroook Crematorium. The £1.5m project is on behalf of Westerleigh Group, a specialist cemetery and crematorium operator with over 20 facilities across the country.
Following the completion of foundation works and erection of steel columns the masonry superstructure is now in progress. Padstones, which will provide supports for steel beams, were recently placed in preparation for the commencement roof works. The rear of the building, which will house office space and the cremator room, will feature a steel framed roof while the chapel and entrance lobby will have a Glulam timber beam frame.
Roads, pathways, drainage works and car parking were all completed by a separate civil engineering contractor before Borras took possession of the site in June 2016. The facility is designed to complement the rural surrounding and will include a porte-coche entrance, garden of remembrance and memorial woodland once completed.
Our project team welcomed representatives from Broxbourne Borough Council and Westerleigh Group Managing Director Richard Evans to site last week to view progress. Richard Evans commented “it’s a secluded, natural spot, ideally suited for holding funerals and allowing families to grieve in a peaceful surrounding.”
The new state-of-the-art facility is scheduled for completion in the New Year. Watch time-lapse footage of the project so far below.
I wanted to write a thank you to your team, particularly the two Site Managers for their professional approach to this project, their excellent customer care and perseverance on a very difficult site.
