Phase 1 of new student accommodation completed at ACS Cobham
Our General Contracts team have been on site at ACS Cobham since June 2017. ACS International Schools is a group of four private school, 3 in England and 1 in Qatar. The Cobham site offers a world leading US-based curriculum on both day and boarding basis. There is currently around 1,500 students aged 2 to 18 and 300 faculty and staff on the 128 acre site in Surrey.
The 53 week long scheme involves the extensive refurbishment of an existing two storey 120 bed dormitory building located in the heart of the school campus (pictured above). In order to reduce disruption and allow the building to remain semi-occupied the works have been been broken down into two phases. Phase 1, which was handed over this week, has seen the north block completely revamped. Internal hoarding and segregation measures successfully isolated the construction areas and allowed students to remain in situ and largely unaffected in the south block throughout.
Works included the renewal of all mechanical and electrical services, the replacement of bespoke fitted furniture, minor external works and decorations throughout the dorms and communal areas; including common rooms, kitchens, living spaces and laundry rooms. All existing roof lights were also removed and replaced with improved, electronically controlled units. Before works began throughout a sample bedroom was completed, its specification was then adjusted and approved by the client to ensure the desired finish was achieved in every dorm.

Now phase 1 is complete students will be decanted from the south block into the completed dorms, allowing phase 2 in the south block to commence.
