Completed by our Special Works Division in June 2016, this project involved extensive refurbishment works to Church House in Hendon. The building, which is owned by the neighbouring St Mary’s Church had stood unoccupied for 6 years before Borras set up site in November 2015.
Works spanned 29 weeks and involved:
- Repairs to the buildings structure, including new internal structural steels and timbers
- The formation of new opening’s and construction of partition walls, dramatically altering the buildings internal layout
- Demolition of an existing single storey extension followed by the construction of a replacement
- New windows, doors and roofing
- Complete mechanical and electrical fit out including the installation of new services to the building
- Repair works to the building’s exterior including re-pointing of brickwork
- Creation of a new lift shaft and installation of a lift
- Creation of a new car park and boundary wall
Now complete the ground floor features two multi-use rooms, an entrance hall and toilets, with a large function room and kitchen on the first floor. The church will now utilise the building as a community facility together with making space available for commercial rental, including to the near by Middlesex University.
As with all Borras project’s, the site was registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme, an independent organisation founded to improve the image of the construction industry.
Registered sites are monitored against a code of considerate practice, designed to encourage performance beyond statutory requirements. Church House scored an impressive 39 points out of 50 with the Considerate Constructor’s assessor commenting that “this is a largely excellent site, presenting an exceptional appearance, particularly externally, with a well constructed pedestrian walkway and excellent hoarding”.
