Brimsdown Primary School

Enfield, London

CLIENT: Enfield Borough Council
ARCHITECT: AD Architects
VALUE: £2,700,000

Our General Contracts Division completed this £2.7m, two phase scheme at Brimsdown Primary School in November 2017.

Phase 1, which started in October 2016 and was handed over in time for the new September 2017 term involved the extension and refurbishment of the schools existing hall. Works began with the demolition of an existing wall to form an opening to which the steel framed extension was adjoined to, pictured above.

The new structure now provides the school with a larger commercial kitchen, integrated storage space and a larger dining/sports hall which can be divided thanks to two large folding partitions.

The roof on the existing portion of the hall was renewed in tandem with the installation of the extensions roof. Several new sky lights and air handling units were installed which help to flood the space with natural light and optimise the circulation of fresh, tempered air around the building.

Colourful acoustic wall mounted panels help brighten the hall’s appearance and ensure the noisy sports lessons don’t disturb the neighbouring classrooms.

Phase 2 could not commence until the new phase 1 dining facilities were completed. Works included the demolition of the now redundant, existing dining hall which made way for 44 additional car parking spaces, the formation of a new main entrance to the school, refurbishment works within existing buildings; including the creation of new toilet blocks and the creation of a new external soft play area.
