King’s Sport Waterloo Gym Refurbishment
CLIENT: King's College London
QUANTITY SURVEYOR: KCL
CONTRACT PERIOD: 9 Weeks
Borras has successfully delivered another great project in the city of London. As our business growth has continued, we’ve also developed great relationships with new clients, this time with King’s College London. King’s Sport operate five gyms across King’s College’s campuses and halls of residences, delivering a range of opportunities for both staff and students to get involved in sport and physical activity. King’s Sport also run various schemes and programmes supporting mental health and health awareness.
In July 2019, the Borras Special Works team started working on site to deliver refurbishment and upgrades to the men’s and women’s shower and changing rooms, located on the ground floor. In addition to this, we opened up further space on the ground floor which will be used for storage of weights and other fitness equipment. At Borras we’re known for going the extra mile and managed to carry out a fresh paint and new flooring to the staircase access route, further walls on the ground floor and an entrance on the first floor. Refurbishment of the shower and changing rooms included:
- New shower installations
- New toilets
- New vanity units
- Changing room lockers
- New wash and basin units with the inclusion of hair dryers.
We faced the challenge of completing the project in a total of nine weeks, with the gym in use throughout the duration of the works. This included redesigning the vanity units and pipework boxing on site to suit the existing pipework, which wasn’t included with the produced drawings and plans. By working some weekends we still managed to deliver the project on time, completed in partnership with King’s College London.
