RMS For Girls Performing Arts Building
CLIENT: The Royal Masonic School for Girls
ARCHITECT: Rumble Sedgwick
QUANTITY SURVEYOR: Rumble Sedgwick
CONTRACT PERIOD: 27 Weeks
Borras is proud to have completed another project at the Royal Masonic School for Girls. Starting out with 15 pupils and a matron in East London, and after relocating twice, the RMS finally settled in the grounds of Rickmansworth Park in 1934, a stunning 315 acres of land.
We initially begun our relationship with RMS back in 2010, when Borras was appointed and successfully delivered extensive refurbishment and extensions to form a new Pre-prep and Prep Department. Most recently, we completed the refurbishment of this former boarding house, transformed into a state of the art facility for the Faculty of Performing Arts.
In October 2018, our Special Works team set up site to deliver the proposed refurbishment plans. The works involved the complete strip out of the existing building to introduce a new mechanical and electrical system including fire alarms, new heating and air conditioning systems, structure alterations and steel works, two new flat roofs, roof lighting and internal dry-line arches. The fit out of the building also included a feature sprung dancefloor and mirrored walls in the Dance Studio, additional sound tests were also carried out for acoustics. RMS are continuing with further fit out plans ahead of an official summer 2019 opening.
We faced the challenge of working within a live environment, through busy term times. A bicycle was purchased, enabling Borras staff to cycle down to a barrier and allow access for visitors and deliveries due to the size of the grounds and access. Despite these challenges, the project was delivered on time. We worked with partners, Rumble Sedgwick to complete this scheme of works.
