Borras’ General Contracts completed major internal and external renovation works at the Bedford Museum and Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, a Grade II listed building in Bedford.
The redevelopment included the refurbishment of the existing walkway which joins the two buildings together also linking the house within the grounds to the Art Gallery and Museum for improved access. These improvements have been made to provide excellent new services and fantastic facilities. These new facilities include and improved gift shop and a cafe with seating in the courtyard together with improved learning spaces for facilities and schools.
The project was jointly funded by Bedford Borough Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund, it is expected that the overhaul of the museum will cut the annual running costs by more than £200,000.
The overall scheme has a value in excess of £6m and includes the refitting of the galleries together with extensive security works.
