Slough Urban Renewal (SUR), a joint venture between Slough Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd, was formed to deliver an ambitious multi-million pound redevelopment scheme to transform Slough. Project over the coming years will include the provision of new housing, improving schools and developing retail, commercial and leisure offerings across the Town.
Following a competitive tender process Borras were awarded this design and build scheme, within SUR’s first phase of works, to provide 5 new affordable homes across 4 infill sites in Wexham. Works involved both the refurbishment of existing dilapidated properties and the construction of new build homes.
Two new detached houses were constructed, one in The Frithe (top picture) and another nearby in The Cherries. The two storey, two bedroomed properties were built on disused land in close proximity to occupied homes. Close liaison between our Site Manager and the neighbouring residents ensured all parties were kept abreast with progress and made aware of any noisy or potentially disruptive works well in advance.
A two-storey extension on an existing Bryant Avenue property converted it from a 2 to a 4 bed and further refurbishment works inproved the kitchen, living, utility and garden areas. 23 Mansel Close was also extended creating a new disability-accessible house as well as increasing the size of the existing property.
All properties were designed to match the aesthetic of existing neighbouring properties and were built to the police backed ‘Secured by Design’ standard. Following the successful delivery of the project Borras were awarded a further scheme to provide 16 new homes across 6 sites which is scheduled for completion in 2018.
