Sparrow Court Opens
Borras Construction’s recently completed £1.5m social housing project in Wheathampstead is now open and welcoming new tenants.
The scheme, which was completed on behalf of St Albans City and District Council involved the alteration and refurbishment of an existing sheltered housing complex, transforming it into independent living flats for the over-55s.
When Borras took possession of the vacant building formerly known as Thomas Sparrow House it was made up of 16 bedsits and 6 one bed flats but dramatic alterations to the internal layout transformed it into 13 far larger one and two bedroomed properties, all complete with independent kitchens, bathrooms and lounge areas.

- Enhancements to the garden including the removal of several trees, the erection of a summer house and the construction of a bridge link to the rear of the building
- A full electrical rewire throughout
- The removal and replacement of existing lifts
Cllr Brian Ellis, Portfolio Holder for Housing for St Albans City and District Council said:
“It is the biggest project of its kind we have undertaken for over twenty years. It’s and exciting project, providing high quality homes and making a real difference to people’s lives”
